Datawind : Aakash 2 project completed and 1 lakh units shipped to government

Datawind : the producer of low-costing Aakash tablets said on Wednesday - it has shipped 1 lakh units to the government completing the deal after almost two-years and half which was marred by glitches.

The contract of producing l lakh units of Aakash tablet was given to Datawind and to be priced at $49.98 (Rs. 2,276).

"We have supplied all units of Aakash tablets under contract to the government. It will be with the transporter by midnight tonight and will be processed through Letter of Credit documentation by IIT-Bombay," Datawind CEO Suneet Singh Tuli told PTI.

He also said, "the company has already supplied 74,700 units of Aakash 2, upgraded version of tablet unveiled in October 2011, which have been delivered to and accepted by C-DAC, Noida and IIT-Bombay and 25,300 units are to be processed through Transporter in Noida".

"The 25,300 unit final shipments will be released by State Bank of India (IIT-Bombay's bank) upon endorsement of the delivery order, as per the Letter of Credit requirement established by IIT-Bombay," he said.

"We have supplied 98,000 of Aakash 2 devices and 2,000 devices with DataWind's recommendations for upgraded version of Aakash 2, all at a price of Rs. 2,263," Tuli said.

Comparison (Aakash Tablet 1 vs Aakash Tablet 2) - Aakash tablet 2 has been upgraded from 366 MHz processor to 1Ghz processor, Internal storage from 2 GB to 4 GB (both expandable upto 32 GB), RAM from 256 MB to 512 MB, Android version from 2.2 Froyo to 4.0 ICS and at last battery backup from 2,100 mAh to 3,000 mAh.

Conclusion - There has been drastic change from version 1 to version 2 of Aakash tablet.
Prices - Aakash 1 tablet costs Rs. 2,500 and Aakash 2 tablet costs Rs. 3,999.

Motorola announces Moto E4 and E4 Plus in India, to go on sale tonight
