Mercedes S-Class Revealed

Germany Daimler pulled the covers from it's new flasgship Mercedes S-Class, a critical product launch for company struggling to make a dent in leading rivals - BMW and Audi enjoy in sales and profit.

"Image-wise the S-Class is the vehicle that most personifies Mercedes-Benz. If they get it wrong, it could damage the brand and all the vehicles under it," said Christoph Stuermer, research director at IHS Automotive in Frankfurt.

Traditionally the Mercedes S-Class served as showcase for Daimler's latest technology, including safety features that Mercedes helped pioneer. For example - The S-Class in 1978 was the first car in world offering anti-lock brakes.

The new Mercedes S-Class is the first vehicle in the world capable of identifying bumps on road in advance and adjust the suspension according to the situation. "We invested massively in the new S-Class ...more Mercedes than an S-Class isn't possible," Zetsche said.

The 'BAS PLUS Brake Assist' system with Cross-Traffic Assist is able to identify traffic crossing the vehicle's path as well as pedestrians and accordingly boost the driver's braking performance. On the other side, 'PRE-SAFE® Brake' avoids collisions with autonomous braking intervention at speeds of up to 50 km/h.

The new Mercedes S-Class delights all the senses: the world's first 'AIR-BALANCE' package with active perfume atomize offers a new dimension in well-being.

The AIR-BALANCE package with active perfume atomisation and four ambient scents is a world first for the S-Class.
