The Most Long-awaited Amber Update from Nokia has finally started rolling out globally for Windows Phone 8 powered Lumia smartphones. Update is built with WP8 GDR2 update from Microsoft with Nokia's exclusive features in addition to it.
Amber Update brings all new camera application - the Smart camera app. This application was launched out of the box for Lumia 925 but now it will be available to all Lumia devices. Some of the high end devices from Nokia, such as - Lumia 920, Lumia 925 and 928 will be getting Pro Camera app which was introduced with Lumia 1020.
Amber Update not only brings new applications but it also brings better noise reduction, better color rendering, better exposure metering and improved auto-focus. On other side, Lumia 920 will also be getting it's ISO setting ceiling from 800 to 3,200.
After update is completed, Nokia HERE suite can also be updated. The new version allows for easier map updates, only downloading the changes in a map instead of downloading the whole thing (this saves time and data).
Furthermore, new Nokia Glance screen brings a clock and notifications to the lockscreen which unfortunately Lumia 520 and 625 will be missing in the update.
The Amber update also enables a couple of new gestures – double-tap the screen in standby to wake the phone and flip-to-mute-ringer. There's also the FM radio, which will be enabled on all but the Lumia 620. The new Storage Check tool will show you how much storage is used for apps, media files and the system should you need to clear up some space.
The Update for Lumia 920 in India is already available and for other Lumia devices, it's still to be approved.
The update will be rolled out in stages depending on the model and country. The Nokia Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 will be getting it first, along with US models 928, 810, 521. Nokia expects to complete the rollout for the 920, 820, 720, 620 and 520 by the end of September.
