Recently, MediaTek has officially announced world's first 'True Octa-core processor' which it claims that all eight cores can work simultaneously.
However, MediaTek has still not mentioned the model number nor the chipset nor the architecture for this true Octa-core processor. According to reports, it's said to have ARM 7 based architecture and is not like Samsung Exynos Octa 5 which is based on ARM's big.LITTLE architecture and has four Cortex A7 cores and four Cortex A15 cores.
As mentioned above, Samsung Exynos Octa has two sets of quad-core processors but only one set works at any given time. For lean and small jobs Cortex A7 does the job and when High-performance is needed Cortex A15 quad-core set works.

MediaTek said, "the chipset registers clockspeeds ranging from 1.7 Ghz to 2 Ghz." The Chipset can also decode 1080p videos @30fps and according to some reports revealed online MediaTek Octa core processor scores 30,000 on AnTuTu benchmark which is lesser than the Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 processor 35,000 score.
It's also reported that this Chipset supports MediaTek-developed four-in-one connectivity which includes - Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, FM, Wi-Fi certified Miracast and Power VR Series 6 GPU. It's expected that MediaTek true-octa core processors will be used in up-coming performance demanded devices for multi-tasking efficiently without any compromise.
